Karen Bauer

Karen Bauer is an experienced attorney currently serving in the General Counsel’s office at the U.S. Department of Education, focusing on Post-Secondary Education issues and litigation. Prior to this role, Bauer managed the EvictionFreeMKE project at the Legal Aid Society of Milwaukee, overseeing technology assets and ensuring compliance with grant requirements while also developing strategies in consumer protection. With a strong background in consumer law, Bauer has worked extensively on issues such as student loan management and tenant rights, serving in various capacities including Managing Attorney and Staff Attorney at multiple legal organizations. Additionally, Bauer has been actively involved in governance roles within the State Bar of Wisconsin and various public interest initiatives. Bauer holds a J.D. from the University of Wisconsin Law School and has a solid educational foundation in political science and paralegal studies.
