Assistant United States Attorney, Chief Of Environmental Litigation, Civil Division, EDNY at Department of Justice

Matthew Silverman is a seasoned legal professional with extensive experience in both public service and civil litigation. Currently serving as the Chief of Environmental Litigation in the Civil Division of the U.S. Department of Justice since May 2013, Matthew has a rich background that includes roles such as Agency Attorney with the New York City Department of Education, representing the department in special education litigation, and Assistant Attorney General for the New York State Office of the Attorney General, where significant litigation was handled for state agencies. Additional experience as a Trial Attorney at the Nassau County Legal Aid Society focused on representing indigent clients in criminal cases. Matthew has also contributed to various community boards, such as serving on the Brooklyn Community Board 6 since 2008, and has held positions with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and local advocacy groups. An alumnus of SUNY Oswego, Matthew holds a BA in Public Justice and a JD.
