Mark Franke has extensive experience in the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, serving in various leadership roles since December 2003, including Director of the Division of Reactor Projects and Director of the Division of Reactor Safety. Franke has been pivotal in shaping policies and regulations for new and advanced reactors, as well as managing the licensing processes, including the final design certification of the Economic Simplified Boiling Water Reactor (ESBWR). Previous to the NRC, Franke worked at Merrill Lynch as an Assistant Vice President and certified financial manager. Franke began a career in the U.S. Navy, serving as a Lieutenant and qualified Submarine Officer, gaining expertise in nuclear engineering and maintenance. Franke holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the United States Naval Academy.
