Remmy Shawa, PhD, is a highly experienced professional in public health and human rights, currently serving as a Senior Programme Specialist and Deputy Focal Point for UNESCO in South Africa since April 2017. With a strong focus on education and health, Remmy supports the implementation of the flagship regional programme, Our Rights, Our Lives, Our Future (O3), across 34 Sub-Saharan African countries. Previous positions include Post-Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Cape Town, Founder and Managing Partner of PsycHealth Zambia, and various roles in organizations such as Sonke Gender Justice and UNAIDS, where Remmy actively contributed to advancing sexual and reproductive health and rights and youth engagement in global health initiatives. Remmy holds a PhD and MPH from the University of Cape Town and a BA in Sociology and Psychology from the University of Zambia.
