Carlos Rafael Sousa

Carlos Rafael Sousa is a seasoned professional in the field of molecular diagnostics, currently serving as the Molecular Diagnostics Lab Director at Unilabs Portugal since July 2014, where responsibilities include the implementation and maintenance of ISO9001 and ISO15189 accreditations in Pathology and Molecular Biology. Prior to this role, Carlos was the Manager of the Molecular Biology Department at Unilabs, focusing on epigenetics related to cervical cancer and molecular microbiology. Carlos also held the position of Quality Manager at LAP, Laboratório de Anatomia Patológica Lda., from July 2006 to July 2021, where ISO15189 and ISO9001 standards were established and maintained. Earlier experience includes serving as Molecular Biology Manager at LAP, handling hr-HPV detection and molecular microbiology in pathology samples, and providing technical advisory services at Abbott Laboratories. Carlos has also contributed to education as a trainer at Escola Superior de Tecnologias da Saúde de Lisboa. Educational qualifications include a Master's degree in Microbiology from Escola Superior de Biotecnologia at Universidade Católica Portuguesa.
