Carl Stauffer is a seasoned expert in reconciliation and restorative justice with extensive experience in academia and conflict transformation. Currently serving as a Senior Expert at the United States Institute of Peace since March 2021, Stauffer previously co-directed The Zehr Institute for Restorative Justice, fostering crucial discussions and learning within the field. As Academic Director of the Caux Scholars Program from July 2011 to March 2021, oversight of international scholars focused on peacebuilding was provided. Stauffer also held the position of Associate Professor of Justice & Peacebuilding at Eastern Mennonite University, where a pioneering MA in Restorative Justice was developed and significant research on indigenous transitional justice was conducted. Earlier roles include serving as Regional Peace Advisor for Mennonite Central Committee, managing peacebuilding initiatives in various African countries, and founding the Capital Area Victim-Offender Reconciliation Program. Stauffer holds a PhD in Political Sociology and advanced degrees in Conflict Transformation and Social Work.
