Ignacio Ramirez is an Associate Professor at Universidad de la República since September 2021, having also served as an Assistant Professor and Level 2 teacher in the department of Electrical Engineering since May 1999. Ignacio is an active member of the Signal Processing and Information Theory groups. Previous experience includes serving as a PhD candidate and Research Assistant at the University of Minnesota from June 2008 to January 2012, where Ignacio developed information-theoretic model selection tools for sparse data modeling. Ignacio completed an internship at Hewlett-Packard Laboratories in 2004, working on a Master's thesis that involved adapting a universal information-theoretic denoiser for digital images. Ignacio holds a Ph.D. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Minnesota, attained between 2008 and 2011, a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from Universidad de la República from 2005 to 2007, and a degree in Electrical Engineering focused on Telecommunications and Electronics from the same institution, completed in 2002.
