Sara Hastings-Simon

Sara Hastings-Simon serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy and the School of Public Policy at the University of Calgary, where Sara has directed the MSc in Sustainable Energy Development since July 2021. In addition to academic responsibilities, Sara co-hosts "Energy vs Climate" and serves on the Expert Panel on Clean Growth for the Canadian Institute for Climate Choices. Previously, Sara held positions on the Board of Directors for Emissions Reduction Alberta and as a Senior Research Associate at the Payne Institute for Public Policy. With extensive experience in clean economy initiatives, Sara has also worked as a Director at Business Renewables Centre Canada and as a Senior Fellow at the Pembina Institute. Prior experience includes leadership roles at McKinsey & Company, where Sara managed the development of innovative solutions in the electric utility sector. Sara holds a PhD in Physics from the University of Geneva, a Master's degree in Physics from UC Santa Barbara, and a BA in Physics from Pomona College.
