Kalana Athukorala

Kalana Athukorala is an MD/PhD candidate and research assistant at the University of Michigan Medical School since September 2017. Kalana has been involved in various roles, including serving as an event team member at University of Michigan Athletics and as elections chairperson for the City of Ann Arbor until July 2023. Additionally, Kalana worked as a dialysis technician for DaVita Kidney Care from 2021 to May 2022 and served in leadership positions with Global Brigades, Inc. Kalana gained research experience as a SURE EnMed Fellow at Texas A&M University College of Engineering/Houston Methodist in the summer of 2019, and also contributed as head instructor and counselor at Ann Arbor Skyline High School Band Camp and Interlochen Fine Arts Camp from 2017 to 2018. Kalana holds a Master of Science in Engineering in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Michigan (2020-2021) and a Bachelor of Science in Cell and Molecular Biology from the same institution (2016-2020).
