Somaya Albhaisi

Somaya Albhaisi currently serves as a GI Fellow at the University of Southern California, a position held since July 2024. Prior to this, Somaya held the role of Interim Associate Chief of Research at Virginia Commonwealth University from September 2023 to July 2024 and participated in the Global Solvers Accelerator 2023 with The Melton Foundation. Somaya's academic career includes an appointment as an Assistant Professor and a Resident Physician at VCU Health from July 2016 to July 2024, and as a Resident Physician at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (managed by Cleveland Clinic) from September 2014 to June 2016. Somaya began medical training as an Intern House Officer at Dubai Health Authority from July 2013 to July 2014. Somaya obtained a Master of Public Health degree from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree from Dubai Medical College for Girls. Educational background includes completion of secondary education at Qatr Al Nada High School.
