Poonam Chandra

Visiting Professor at University of Virginia

Poonam Chandra is an accomplished astronomer and associate professor with extensive experience in academia and research. Current positions include astronomer at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory and visiting professor at the University of Virginia, both held since May and June 2022, respectively. Poonam also serves as associate faculty at the International Centre for Theoretical Sciences since May 2021 and has held the role of associate professor at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in Mumbai since August 2012. Previous experience includes guest professor at Stockholm University and research associate and adjunct assistant professor at the Royal Military College of Canada from 2008 to 2012. A Jansky Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Virginia from 2005 to 2008, Poonam holds a Ph.D. in Astrophysics from the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, as well as a Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Science and additional degrees in Physics from Aligarh Muslim University and Dayalbagh Educational Institute.
