Kaki Schmidt

Kaki Schmidt is a seasoned attorney specializing in environmental law and consumer advocacy. Currently serving as Senior Counsel at Van Ness Feldman LLP since November 2017, Kaki leads citizen suit litigation under various federal and state environmental statutes, collaborating with non-profit environmental groups and public interest lawyers. Kaki has also been a Consumer Advocate for Gluten Free Watch Dog since August 2017, focusing on improving FDA oversight related to gluten-free labeling for Celiac Disease patients. Previously, Kaki was the Safety Director and Board Member for the Reston Raiders Hockey Club, where a comprehensive concussion safety program was developed, and worked as a Solo Practitioner in estate planning, building a referral-based practice. Earlier experience includes serving as an Environmental Enforcement Trial Attorney at the U.S. Department of Justice, addressing complex civil actions under federal environmental statutes. Kaki holds a JD from the University of California, College of the Law, San Francisco, and a BA in Geography/Ecosystems with an emphasis on Environmental Policy from UCLA.
