A credit union member since childhood, Christie has been involved in credit unions and cooperatives across the country as both a Board Member and Independent Committee Member for more than a decade. She brings her experience and passion for sustainable finance and cooperative values to Vancity’s Board of Directors.
Elected in 2020, Christie was inspired to join the Board because Vancity’s values are aligned with her own.
Christie has spent 20 years focused professionally on responsible business and sustainable investing. Since 2016, she has been the Executive Director of the Peter P. Dhillon Centre for Business Ethics at UBC Sauder School of Business and previously worked at Sustainalytics (then Jantzi Research Associates), NEI Investments (Ethical Funds) and Purpose Capital (now Rally Assets).
Christie has more than two decades of diverse governance experience, having served on the boards of a charity, several cooperatives, numerous non-profits, two university senates, several private companies, and multi-employer pension plan.
She is a member of the Canadian Climate Law Initiative’s Climate Governance Experts Network and the International Sustainable Finance Faculty Consortium. She received a 2019 Clean50 award for outstanding contributors to clean capitalism in Canada.
Christie holds a Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science from the University of Victoria, a Master of Education in Administration and Policy Studies from McGill University, studied Chinese in Beijing, and speaks both Canada’s official languages.
Christie grew up in Vancouver’s West End and lived in Victoria, Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto before calling Kitsilano home with her husband and young son.
