Rear Admiral (Dr.) Paul Pearigen’s nearly 30-year naval career included extensive experience in patient care, graduate medical education, deployed healthcare delivery especially in the surface fleet, hospital leadership and management, and headquarters policy and oversight at all levels of the Navy and of Navy Medicine.
Earning national certification as a physician executive as well as an advanced degree in management from University of Southern California Marshall School of Business complemented Dr. Pearigen’s military hospital command assignments and headquarters role as Navy’s governance liaison to the Defense Health Agency. His military career culminated as commander (CEO) of Navy Medicine West, a 10 hospital, $1.2 billion annual operating budget, integrated regional healthcare system that spanned from the west coast of the U.S. across the Pacific Rim. His distinguished simultaneous service as DoD health system executive, administrator of the Navy’s globally-distributed medical R&D enterprise, and chief of the Navy’s 4000 uniformed physicians was recognized with the Navy’s highest non-combat individual award. Dr. Pearigen is directorship certified by the National Association of Corporate Directors and is a member of the Board of the San Diego Military Advisory Council.
Dr. Pearigen received his medical degree from Vanderbilt University. He completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at the Medical College of Pennsylvania and fellowship in Clinical Pharmacology/Toxicology at the University of California San Francisco.
