Michael Callan

Michael Callan was elected to the school board in 2022. With a father in the Navy, Callan moved to Virginia Beach in 1965 as he entered seventh grade at Thalia Elementary. He graduated in 1971 from Princess Anne High School, where he met his wife, Renee, who he married in 1973. Callan began his career in the maritime community at the Port of Hampton Roads. Later, he attended night school at St. Leo College (University) to earn his Bachelor of Arts in business management. Callan joined the financial services industry in 1984. His career takes him to various companies, all the while obtaining numerous professional licenses and designations that added to his understanding of the profession. His two children attended Virginia Beach City Public Schools. In 2004, Callan and his son joined forces as a father-son team at Merrill Lynch, and remained there until they launched First Landing Financial in 2009. He now has four grandchildren who live here in Virginia Beach and attend public school. It is because of his grandchildren, and his desire that they experience a solid, rigorous education that prepares them for the challenges that await them in their futures, that Callan sought to become a member of the VBCPS School Board.
