Eric “Rick” Bernthal, JD, served as a member of the Humane Society of the United States board for twelve years, seven as Chair of the Board. He has served on the boards of many other animal welfare and advocacy organizations, including the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter, Project Chimps, the South Florida Wildlife Center, Humane Society International, the Humane Society Wildlife Land Trust, and the Nightingale Ranch Foundation. Rick practiced telecommunications and corporate law in Washington, DC, for over 40 years and served as the Managing Partner of Latham & Watkins’ D.C. office for more than a decade. He has extensive experience advising for-profit and not-for-profit organizations and has written and spoken widely on law firm management and animal advocacy issues.
