Currently, Dr. Jeffrey A. Sachs is CEO and Founder of the Sachs Policy Group (SPG). SPG is a boutique consulting firm that advises health care leaders on the direction of health care policy in the United States. SPG's expertise is in information analysis and strategic guidance, providing leaders with unique, personalized strategies to achieve success in a fast-changing health care environment. SPG also provides guidance to the health tech start up community working with over 50 tech enabled health care companies.
Dr. Sachs’s experience as a policy advisor dates back to the gubernatorial administrations of New York Governors Hugh Carey and Mario Cuomo where he served as senior health and human services advisor. He served on Governor Andrew Cuomo's 2011 New York State Medicaid Redesign Team contributing to one of the nation’s most innovative and comprehensive Medicaid overhauls. From 2006 to 2011, he advised California state officials on Medicaid enhancement and universal coverage strategies. Dr. Sachs provided guidance on the development of California’s 2010 Medicaid waiver, which disbursed $10 billion over five years to secure the safety net and help implement significant reform in the state and was the intellectual author of the first DSRIP (Delivery System Reform Incentive Payment program).
In 2009, Dr. Sachs served on President Obama’s Health Policy Advisory Committee and he negotiated a joint letter signed by leading health care trade organizations, expressing their commitment to the Affordable Care Act.
Dr. Sachs is the Founding Secretary of Help USA, a housing and employment non-profit agency. He co-founded the John F. Kennedy Jr. Institute for Worker Education, which promotes workforce development in health care. He also has served on the Boards of philanthropic and advisory organizations, including Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights, Patton Veterans Project, and The Creative Coalition.
