Be a part of the initial team to grow and operate a regionally significant new underground mine development that is rapidly becoming the future of the iconic Red Lake gold mining district in Ontario, Canada.
Reporting to the Chief Geologist the successful candidate is responsible for the development and maintenance of the mines geological and resource block models. The Resource Geologist will work with operations team to support a safety culture and achievement in production targets.
The focus of this role will include:
Ensure underground mining activities are conducted in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Ontario) and Regulations and environmental standards
Comply with all safety requirements and observes all company policies and procedures
Responsible for the development and support of resource models, grade control models, geological, structural, and mineralization models for various timeframes of planning.
Maintain current applications, develop new applications and test new technical concepts and methodologies for resource estimation.
Communicate changes in local grade resource estimates to peers, management and other departments as required and recommend and update/changes to resource modeling processes to improve quality and efficiency.
Ensuring, through monitoring of data/databases, that a high standard of QA/QC is maintained
Involvement in monthly reconciliation and reporting processes.
Collaborate with the mine geology and engineering and operations departments for planning.
Help with plans and guidance for the exploration and definition diamond drilling in the zone extensions and in the production stopes.
Expected to play an active role, in supervising, planning, organizing, and controlling various technical and operational aspects.
Provide high-level technical support to the operation on geology related items as required, such as technical reports or as presentations.
Exposure to a wide variety of exploration, geology, data analysis, and grade estimation scenarios with opportunities for increased responsibilities and career growth.
Contribute to the identification and evaluation of new growth opportunities for the Company
Training and mentorship of junior roles in the geology department
Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Experience:
University degree in Geology, Geoscience, or similar field
Certified Professional Geologist designation and Registered as a professional geologist in Ontario (or eligible for registration).
Minimum > 6- 10 years working in the position of Geologist with in-depth knowledge of mine geology and ore control. Experience should include >3 years of experience in geological modeling and resource estimation
Strong capabilities with database management, QA/QC protocols and geostatistical analysis
Good knowledge of database, Leapfrog, or similar software, in particular 3D modelling
Strong 3D interpretation and modelling skills.
Demonstrated ability in the production of technical documentations and reports.
Strong problem solving and judgmental skills is required.
Results driven with the ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines.
Strong ability to communicate highly technical procedures and results to others both inside and outside the immediate group.
