Christian Walzer

Executive Director Health at Wildlife Conservation Society

Christian Walzer serves as the Executive Director of Health at the Wildlife Conservation Society since August 2017. Walzer has been a university professor at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Vienna, Austria, since June 2005, holding the Chair for Zoological Medicine and In-situ Conservation. As a co-founder of the Conservation Support Network, Walzer focuses on integrative solutions for the human-wildlife-landscape interface, offering wildlife veterinary services and project leadership. Previous roles include Director of Science for the International Takhi Group, Co-Director of the Department of Integrative Biology and Evolution at Vetmed University of Vienna, and Co-Director of the Research Institute of Wildlife Research. Walzer's extensive veterinary experience encompasses wildlife and exotic animal care, research, and veterinary management at various institutions, including Salzburg Zoo Hellbrunn. Educational qualifications include a Dr. Habil. in zoo and wildlife medicine and a veterinary degree from VetMed University Vienna, along with certification from the European Board of Veterinary Specialisation in Wildlife Population Health.
