Louis Celliers

Louis Celliers is a board member at WIOMSA and a former principal scientist and research group leader at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). Louis has over five years of experience in managing all operational aspects of a research group, including financial planning, human resources, intellectual property, project risk, procurement, and occupational health and safety.

Celliers is also responsible for tactical decisions relating to business development and the positioning of the group within the coastal and marine research and management landscape, in order to achieve strategic research goals. Louis has experience in developing strategic research initiatives and overall research direction of the group in order to respond to the needs of coastal and marine managers and decision-makers.

Under their leadership, the Coastal Systems group has maintained financial sustainability and research excellence in a developing nation and transforming society context.

Louis Celliers completed a PhD in Marine Biology at the University of Natal. Louis also holds an MSc in Microbiology and Biochemistry from the University of Pretoria/Universiteit van Pretoria, and a BSc in Microbiology and Biochemistry from the same institution.
