He graduated from the Faculty of Economics in Split in 1981. On the eve of democratic changes in 1990, he joined the HDZ. He was the director of Split Airport. In 1992, he was elected a Member of Parliament. He was Vice President of the Parliamentary Committee on Economic Development and Reconstruction. The following year, he became a member of the Commission for Issuing Bonds for the Reconstruction of the Republic of Croatia. He was then appointed Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Croatian Credit Bank for Reconstruction (today’s Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and Development). He has been in that position for twenty years. In the meantime, in 1994, he was a member of the Management Board of the Croatian Privatization Fund and a member or chairman of numerous supervisory boards, from Belje, Croatia osiguranje to Croatian Railways.
