Kevin Hurst has over 30 years of experience in the energy, policy, and engineering fields. In 1987, they served as an Engineering Duty Officer in the US Navy. From 1996 to 1998, they worked as a Senior Engineer at Sundstrand Aerospace and then at General Motors. In 2001, Hurst joined the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy as the Assistant Director for Energy R&D, where they collaborated with other White House offices on Presidential policies and budgets, led interagency groups to implement priority initiatives, and managed policy analysis projects. In 2017, they became a Strategic Planning/Renewable Energy Analyst at ProUnlimited @ Nike, Inc., where they provided market data and analysis for Nike's power purchase agreements, assessed the potential benefits and risks of a virtual PPA, and evaluated the expected performance of wind or solar PPAs. In 2019, Hurst joined 2 Circle Consulting, Inc. as a Senior Data Scientist, where they developed a multivariate linear regression analysis tool to characterize and predict U. S. Navy aircrew performance. Most recently, in 2013, Hurst founded Hurst Policy Analysis, LLC, where they developed a Scope 3 carbon emissions calculator for intermodal freight shipments, assessed the expected value and risks of two major power purchase agreements for Nike's corporate procurement of renewable energy, and analyzed technology and policy options for an alumina refinery and a zinc/lead mine to reduce carbon emissions from their operations.

Kevin Hurst received a Bachelor of Science (SB) in Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Electrical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
