Dr. Nakisa (Niki) Alborz has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. Dr. Nakisa (Niki) currently works as the Technology, Learning, and Innovation Manager at BOND Civil & Utility Construction, where they started in May 2023. Prior to this role, they worked as a Project Controls Specialist at the same company from January 2021 to June 2023. Apart from their current position, they also hold the role of Director-Education at AACE International starting from June 2023.
In addition to their roles in the construction industry, Dr. Alborz has extensive experience in academia. Dr. Nakisa (Niki) served as an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering and Technology at a university from January 2020 to December 2020, and as an Assistant Professor in the same department from January 2014 to December 2019. Dr. Nakisa (Niki) also served as the Dept. Chair for Interdisciplinary Engineering and Electromechanical, Interdisciplinary & Biological Engineering at another university from August 2015 to September 2020, and as the College of Engineering Global Education Lead at the same institution from August 2015 to August 2020.
Earlier in their career, Dr. Alborz was the Owner of Alborz Solutions LLC (MBE & DBE Certified) from January 2014 to January 2017. Dr. Nakisa (Niki) also worked as a Ph.D. Student and Teacher's Assistant at Worcester Polytechnic Institute from January 2011 to July 2014. Additionally, they gained research experience at Sasaki Associates from 2012 to 2013 and worked as a Cost Estimator at Parsons Brinckerhoff from 2005 to 2010. Dr. Nakisa (Niki) started their career as a Civil Designer at Tetra Tech in September 2004, where they worked until February 2005.
Dr. Alborz holds certifications as a LEED AP BDC and a PMP.
Dr. Nakisa (Niki) Alborz, LEED AP BD+C, PMP has an extensive education history in civil engineering and project management. Dr. Nakisa (Niki) obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering Technology from Wentworth Institute of Technology in 2004. Dr. Nakisa (Niki) then pursued further education and completed a Master of Science degree in Project Construction Management from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 2011. Dr. Alborz continued their academic journey at Worcester Polytechnic Institute and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Post Occupancy Evaluation and Sustainability from 2011 to 2014.
In addition to their formal education, Dr. Alborz has also acquired additional certifications. Dr. Nakisa (Niki) became a LEED Accredited Professional with a Building Design and Construction (LEED AP BD+C) specialty in 2005, certified by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI). Dr. Nakisa (Niki) also obtained the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, provided by the Project Management Institute.
To enhance their knowledge and skills in modeling, virtual environments, and simulation, Dr. Alborz is currently pursuing a program from MIT Professional Education, with an anticipated completion date in 2023. Dr. Nakisa (Niki) also attended the Management Development Program at Harvard University in 2018, focusing on Higher Education Administration within the field of higher education.
Before pursuing their degrees, Dr. Alborz briefly studied psychology at Emmanuel College in Boston during the year 1999 to 2000.
