Marissa Guzzo

Senior Scientist - Characterization at Abeona Therapeutics

Marissa Guzzo has a diverse work experience in the fields of scientific research and laboratory assistance. Marissa began their career as a Clinical Microbiology Lab Assistant at Nationwide Children's Hospital in 2008, where they worked until 2010. Following this, Guzzo joined Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in 2010 as a PHD Candidate in Molecular Biology/Microbiology. Marissa successfully completed their PHD in 2016 and then served as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the university from 2017 to 2018. During their time at Case Western, Guzzo focused their research on identifying novel mechanisms of intrinsic antifolate resistance in M. tuberculosis for potential tuberculosis drug development. In 2018, they transitioned to Abeona Therapeutics, where they initially worked as a Scientist specializing in Manufacturing until 2021. Currently, they hold the position of Senior Scientist, focusing on Characterization at Abeona Therapeutics.

Marissa Guzzo completed their Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Biochemistry from Denison University from 2007 to 2011. Following their undergraduate studies, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Microbiology and Molecular Biology at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, which they completed from 2010 to 2016.
