Joan Lobo Prat has extensive work experience in various roles related to rehabilitation engineering and robotics. From 2020, Joan has been working as a Rehabilitation Engineer at ABLE Human Motion. Prior to this, from 2019 to 2020, Joan served as a Board Member at the Flextension Foundation. Between 2018 and 2020, Joan worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the IRI - Institut de Robòtica i Informàtica Industrial, CSIC-UPC.
In 2016, Joan had two roles at UC Irvine. Firstly, as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the BioRobotics Lab of Prof. David Reinkensmeyer. Secondly, as a Lecturer responsible for teaching the MAE 106 Mechanical Systems Laboratory course. Joan also served as an Editorial Board Member at the Journal of NeuroEngineering and Rehabilitation from 2016 to 2018, where they contributed to improving the impact factor and facilitated the review and publication of scientific papers.
Before joining UC Irvine, Joan worked as a Research and Development Engineer at Focal Meditech BV in 2016. From 2012 to 2016, Joan was a PhD Candidate at the University of Twente, focusing on their research in the field of robotics. During this time, Joan also worked as a Researcher for the Flextension Foundation on the A-Gear project, which aimed at developing an assistive device for men with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
Joan's work experience also includes an internship for their MSc Thesis at the Institut Guttmann in 2012 and an instructor role at Vela Sense Limits, where they worked as an instructor from 2010 to 2012.
Joan Lobo Prat has a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial and Product Design from the University School of Design and Engineering of Barcelona, which they completed in 2009. Joan then pursued a Master's Degree in Biomedical/Medical Engineering at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya from 2009 to 2011. Continuing their education, they obtained a Master's Degree in Biomedical Engineering - BioMechatronics from Delft University of Technology between 2011 and 2013. Lastly, from 2012 to 2016, Joan Lobo Prat attended the University of Twente where they completed their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Biomechanical Engineering.
