Motlatsi Mthimunye

Motlatsi Mthimunye has an extensive work experience in the finance and banking industry. In 2002, they began their career at Ernst & Young, where they worked in audit until 2005. Motlatsi then joined Deutsche Bank - South Africa, specializing in corporate finance until early 2007. Mthimunye then moved to Absa Group, where they held various roles, including Vice President of Acquisition & Leveraged Finance from 2007 to 2009, and Director of Corporate & Investment Banking for the Telecommunications, Media & Technology sector from 2009 to 2012. Motlatsi then joined Barclays as the Director of Africa Desk, Global Corporates from 2012 to 2015. Returning to Absa Group in 2016, Mthimunye served as the Managing Director and Head of Africa Corridors within the Global Corporates Africa division. In 2017, they became the Managing Director and Head of Sector Coverage within the Corporate & Investment Banking division. Currently, Mthimunye holds the position of Managing Director, leading the Investment Banking Division in South Africa for Absa Group since June 2023.

Motlatsi Mthimunye completed a Bachelor's degree in Accountancy and Business Commerce (B Comm & B Acc) from the University of Witwatersrand between 1998 and 2001. Before that, from 1994 to 1997, they attended Parktown Boys High School. In addition to their formal education, Motlatsi obtained a certification as a Chartered Accountant from the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants in 2004.
