Christoph Schmitz has a diverse work experience spanning various fields. In 2007, they started as an Internship Trainee at Alfred C. Toepfer International. From 2008 to 2009, they worked as an Associate Researcher at IFPRI. Christoph then founded DeCo - Sustainable Farming in 2009 and served as its Founder & CEO until 2013. Simultaneously, they also worked at the PIK - Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, first as a Doctoral Researcher PhD from 2009 to 2012 and then as a Postdoctoral Researcher from 2012 to 2014. In 2014, Schmitz founded Acker.co, where they currently serve as the Founder & CEO. In 2017, they founded GemüseAckerdemie Schweiz, and in 2019, they founded Ackerpause, where they work as a Founder. Their work reflects a strong commitment towards sustainability, healthy nutrition, and environmental consciousness.

Christoph Schmitz began their education at The University of Göttingen, where they earned a Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Sciences from 2004 to 2006. Christoph then continued at the same institution and obtained a Master's degree in Agricultural Economics from 2006 to 2007. Schmitz furthered their education at Wageningen University & Research from 2007 to 2009, where they pursued a Master's degree in Economics. In 2010, they enrolled at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Agricultural Economics, completing it in 2012. During the same period, from 2010 to 2012, Schmitz also attended the Humboldt-Viadrina School of Governance and earned a Master of Public Administration - MPA degree.
