Justin Koonin has a diverse work experience, with their most recent roles being at The George Institute for Global Health and UNSW. At The George Institute for Global Health, they are a Distinguished Fellow & Honorary Professorial Fellow, and prior to that, they held the position of Honorary Professorial Fellow. At UNSW, they are an Adjunct Associate Professor.
Before their current positions, Justin was an Investment Analyst at Allan Gray Australia, where they conducted research and provided investment recommendations. Justin also served as the Co-Chair on the UHC2030 Steering Committee, which aims to build stronger health systems for universal health coverage.
Justin has been involved in advocacy work as well. Justin was the President of ACON, an organization focused on LGBTQ+ health and rights. Justin also served as the Co-convenor of the Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby of NSW.
Earlier in their career, Justin worked as a Senior Associate - Analytics at PwC Australia and as a Research Associate at the University of Sydney.
Justin Koonin completed their education as follows:
- Justin obtained a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Sydney, where they studied from 2007 to 2012.
- From 1999 to 2006, they pursued a Bachelor of Science (Adv.) (Hons) degree in Mathematics and Physics at the University of Sydney.
- In 2016, Justin completed the Graduate, Company Directors Course from the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
- Justin also attended the Sydney Leadership program in 2011.
- Justin has obtained additional certifications, including the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Charterholder from the CFA Institute in 2018, the Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (FAICD) in 2021, and the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Certificate in ESG Investing from the CFA Institute in 2022.
