Karla Loría

Dr. Loría has maintained a proven record of academic success and excellent executive management in all positions she has held. During her 30 years in education, Dr. Loría has worked as a teacher aide, teacher, assistant principal, and school principal before becoming an active member of Superintendent Cabinets. She has also worked as a professor at the Universidad Latina de Costa Rica, where she taught bilingual education and supervised student teachers; as a chief academic officer for the Clark County School District in Las Vegas, Nevada, the fifth-largest district in the nation; and as chief of human resources officer and student support executive director in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where she worked collaboratively with secondary administrators to bolster the success of at-risk students.

Dr. Loría’s goal is to lead the district towards academic excellence while strategically addressing the inequities in the educational system, which the current COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated.

She has completed rigorous superintendent academies, including the Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents (ALAS) Superintendent Leadership Academy (SLA) and the Texas Superintendent Certification Program, and was part of the Great Council of City Schools network. These collaborative meetings helped her maintain a heightened awareness of the inequities in their schools, and identify nationwide best practices that will result in student social-emotional well-being and higher academic achievement.

Dr. Loría holds a bachelor’s degree in preschool and primary education and a master’s degree in educational administration from the Universidad Latina de Costa Rica and a doctorate in professional leadership K-12 from the University of Houston, Texas.
