Mathias Petzold has a diverse and extensive background in global trade compliance and commercial management. Mathias currently holds the role of VP Global Trade Compliance at Adtran, starting in 2023. Prior to this, they worked at ADVA from 2010 to 2023, where they held various positions such as VP Global Trade Compliance & Commercial Management, Senior Director Global Trade Compliance & Commercial Management, and Senior Director Global Trade Compliance & Senior Legal Counsel. During their time at ADVA, they led global trade compliance activities, restructured commercial management, implemented contract-to-revenue processes, and introduced AEO for several sites. Before joining ADVA, Petzold worked at Delphi Automotive Systems from 2001 to 2010 as a Customs Counsel, where they integrated and consolidated customs activities, developed trade management strategies, and provided support with customs audits. Mathias also has previous experience as an Attorney at Cramer & Laws, focusing on commercial law and client representation.
Mathias Petzold obtained a Master's Degree (LL.M.) in International and Comparative Law from the University of Iowa in 2001. Mathias previously studied at Universität Osnabrück from 1991 to 1997, where they earned a Doctor of Law (J.D.) / Diplom Jurist degree in Law and Economy (magna cum laude). In 1994, they also attended Leiden University, focusing on European Union Law. Mathias Petzold has additional certifications including being a Certified U.S. Export Compliance Officer (CUSECO), which they obtained from The International Import-Export Institute (IIEI) in May 2011. Mathias is also a Registered Attorney at the U.S. Court of International Trade since May 2009, with registration from the New York State Unified Court System obtained in October 2006. Mathias was previously registered as an attorney (inactive) at the District Court Arnsberg in May 2000.
