Leah Rubin Shen has a diverse and extensive work experience. Leah began their career as a Laboratory Technician at American Testing Company in 2005 and went on to become an Assistant Scientist at BASF Construction Chemicals in 2006. From 2007 to 2009, they served as a Science Education Volunteer in the Peace Corps. Leah then pursued their studies and worked as a Graduate Student Researcher at the University of California, Berkeley and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory from 2010 to 2015. During this time, they conducted research and supervised undergraduate trainees and interns. In 2015, they became an ACS Congressional Science Fellow for U.S. Senator Chris Coons, where they focused on energy, science, innovation, environment, agriculture, and transportation policy. Leah later served as a Legislative Assistant, directing policy on various environmental and agricultural issues, and finally became the Energy & Environment Policy Advisor for Senator Coons, where they managed a team of three legislative staff members and fellows. Currently, Leah is the Managing Director at Advanced Energy United, a position they have held since January 2023.
Leah Rubin Shen holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley. Prior to this, they obtained a B.A. in Chemistry and Music (voice) from Case Western Reserve University. No specific years were provided for the completion of these degrees.
