Brian Caswell

Brian Caswell is a seasoned technology professional with extensive experience in cybersecurity and software development. Currently serving as a Principal at Microsoft since July 2018, Brian is the architect of Project Freta and previously led Project OneFuzz. Prior to Microsoft, Brian founded Lunge Technology, where significant contributions included serving as an Architecture Board Member for DARPA's Plan X program and leading the development of the Cyber Grand Challenge infrastructure. With a rich background in security research at Raytheon and Sourcefire, Brian has authored widely adopted intrusion detection rule-sets and discovered multiple 0-day vulnerabilities. A graduate of James Madison University, Brian’s career also includes roles at MITRE, where notable achievements included the development of intrusion management software, and early work in event management for Nintendo and Wizards of the Coast.
