Michael Brewis has worked in the financial services industry since 2000. In 2002, they became an Associate at ARCH Actuarial Consultants and in 2003, they became the Owner of Khuselo Benefit Administrators. In 2004, they were appointed Trustee of GTC Group Retirement Funds and in 2005, they were appointed CEO of Sekunjalo Life Assurance Limited. In 2008, they became the Chief Risk Officer & Actuary at African Unity Life, where they were responsible for implementing systems, procedures and controls to accommodate the new FSB Solvency Assessment Management (SAM) regime. In 2018, they were appointed Non Executive Director of dotsure.co.za and in 2020, they were appointed Non Executive Director of Affinity Enterprises. In 2021, they were appointed Non Executive Director of New National Assurance Company.
Michael Brewis' education history begins with their matriculation from Worcester Boys' High in 1965, where they studied for their Matric Examination. Michael then attended Stellenbosch University from 1969 to 1971, where they obtained a B Comm in Mathematics, Economics, and Mathematical Statistics. From 1976 to 1992, they studied at the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries and obtained an FIA in Actuarial Science, Economics, Finance, Investments, and Statistics. In 1992, they completed a Post Graduate Marketing Diploma at the University of Cape Town. In 1997, they completed a Post Graduate Strategy Formulation at the London Business School. In addition, Brewis obtained a Trustee Toolkit from the Financial Services Conduct Authority (FSCA) in December 2020 and a B Com from the University of Stellenbosch in March 1972. Michael is also a Fellow of The Actuarial Society of South Africa and a Fellow of The Institute of Actuaries in London.
