Senior Vice President, Head of Clinical Development at AffyImmune Therapeutics

Sonal Kothari-Gupta, MD, PhD has extensive experience in the medical and pharmaceutical fields. Sonal began their career in 1993 as a Medical Doctor at Government Medical College. In 2001, they became a PhD student in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Bradford, where they worked extensively with transcription factors, especially HNF-1α and p53. In 2006, they began working as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Gastrointestinal Unit of the Department of Medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. From 2009 to 2011, they were a Bioanalytical Assay Development Scientist at Shire Human Genetic Therapies Inc. Sonal then moved to Cambridge Biomedical Inc. as a Senior Research Scientist from 2011 to 2015. In 2015, they became Manager of the Bioanalytical Group at Selecta Biosciences. From 2016 to 2019, they served as Director, Head of Preclinical and Clinical Assays at CRISPR Therapeutics, building and leading a world-class bioanalytical and translational/exploratory biomarker assay group. Sonal then moved to Rubius Therapeutics as Senior Director, Head of Translational Research in 2019, before becoming Head of Translational Medicine at AvroBio and Senior Director Translational Medicine, Head of Clinical Assays and Biomarker Strategy in 2020. Most recently, they were appointed Senior Vice President, Head of Clinical Development at AffyImmune Therapeutics in 2022.

Sonal Kothari-Gupta, MD, PhD, began their educational journey in high school. Sonal then went on to pursue a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from South Gujarat University between 1993 and 1999, with a field of study in MEDICINE. In 2001, they began their PhD studies at University of Bradford, where they completed their studies in 2004, with a field of study in Biology.
