Issam then went on to complete a Residency in Internal Medicine at UC Irvine from 1990 to 1992. Following this, they pursued Fellowships in Cardiovascular Medicine at UC Irvine from 1993 to 1995 and at the Lenox Hill Heart and Vascular Institute from 1995 to 1996. Issam then obtained a Fellowship in Interventional Cardiology at the Lenox Hill Heart and Vascular Institute from 1996 to 1997.
