Senior Principal Scientist - Senior Manager at AIR Worldwide

Sylvie L. has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries, with a focus on atmospheric science, research, and consultancy. Sylvie started their career as a Junior Researcher at the Laboratory of Space Astrophysics in 1999 before moving on to the French National Institute as a Junior Researcher in 2000. In 2001, Sylvie worked as an Environmental Consultant at Peintures Seigneurie Paint Factory. Sylvie then joined Letchford, Norville, Schroeder, Smith and Associates as a Scientist Consultant in 2005 before transitioning to a Research Assistant role at Texas Tech University from 2002 to 2006.

In 2007, Sylvie joined NOAA/Hurricane Research Division/University of Miami as an Assistant Scientist, where they stayed until 2012. Sylvie then joined AIR Worldwide as an Assistant Atmospheric Scientist before being promoted to Senior Atmospheric Scientist I in 2016. In 2018, Sylvie joined Verisk - extreme event solutions as a Senior Manager and Principal Scientist. Currently, they serve as the Tropical Cyclone Team Lead and Wind Hazard Project Lead, managing a team of scientists and overseeing various responsibilities including team management, model development, client support, and regulatory activities.

Sylvie L. began their education journey by earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from Université Paul Sabatier Toulouse III. Sylvie attended this institution from 1995 to 1998. Following this, they pursued further studies and obtained a Master of Science degree in Environmental Sciences from Université de Toulon. This degree was earned between 1998 and 2000. Finally, they completed their education by enrolling at Texas Tech University, where they achieved a PhD in Atmospheric Science. Their doctoral studies took place from 2002 to 2006.
