Lead Design Engineer at Airborne Technology

Willem Jelle Paalberends began their work experience in 2007 as a Commissioner of Excursions for the Space Department at VSV 'Leonardo da Vinci'. In this role, they organized lectures and excursions for students in the space market and coordinated excursions to space-related companies in other European countries.

In 2008, Paalberends became a member of the Board of Study Tour at VSV 'Leonardo da Vinci', where they organized an international trip for thirty master students to England and Ireland. During the trip, they visited over 25 aerospace engineering-related companies.

In 2010, Paalberends joined Airborne as a Master Thesis student, completing their thesis work the following year.

From 2011 onwards, Paalberends worked at Airborne as a Lead Design Engineer, specializing in designing and building high-end composite solutions for the aerospace market. Their early projects involved working on structural engineering for pressure vessels and composite telescopes. As their role evolved, they primarily utilized software such as Marc/Mentat, Patran/Nastran, and later Abaqus.

In addition to their technical role, Paalberends was also a secretary of the work council at Airborne from 2013 to 2019.

Willem Jelle Paalberends obtained a MSc. degree in Aerospace engineering from Delft University of Technology, where they studied from 2004 to 2011. Additionally, they obtained an IPMA-D certificate from the International Project Management Association in December 2016.
