Tim Poonan has over 20 years of work experience in various finance and management roles. Tim started their career at KPMG as an Audit Supervisor in 2001 and later became a Senior Manager in Taxation Consulting. During this time, they provided tax advice to commercial clients and led high-profile merger and acquisition assignments. In 2009, Tim joined Les Mills International as a Taxation & Finance Manager, where they managed the group's tax position and oversaw financial accounts for the US subsidiary. Tim then became the Group Financial Controller, where they were responsible for financial and commercial requirements, including consolidation and reporting to the board. Tim also led initiatives such as outsourcing payroll functions and implementing a new budgeting system. In 2013, they became the Commercial Manager, overseeing global distribution partnerships and supporting distributors in developing strategic plans. Tim later joined Aer Rianta International as the Head of Finance in 2015, leading the compliance, finance, and IT departments. Tim focused on driving business growth and implementing improvements across the organization. In 2016, Tim joined Fisher & Paykel Appliances as the CFO for New Zealand, where they managed a finance team and delivered monthly reporting. Tim also led trade negotiations and identified process and system improvements. In 2020, Tim became the Chief Operating Officer for New Zealand, responsible for pricing and margin optimization. Tim developed a global pricing management system and collaborated with regional teams for reporting and analytics. Currently, Tim is the Chief Financial Officer at Airways New Zealand, a role they took on in 2023.

Tim Poonan has a Chartered Accountant degree from Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, which they completed before 2003. In 2000, they obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Commerce with a focus on Management & Employment Relations from The University of Auckland. Previous to that, they earned a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) in Accounting and Commercial Law from the same university between 1997 and 1999. Their secondary education was completed at Howick College.
