Sloane King Owen

Educator, School Programs at Akron Art Museum

Sloane King Owen is currently the Educatof of School Programs at the Akron Art Museum. Prior to this, they worked as an Intake Coordinator at Preterm Women's Clinic, and before that, as a Visitor Engagement Associate at MOCA Cleveland.

Sloane has always been passionate about art and education. Sloane started their career working in the front of house at The Artist Studios of Lee Mingwei, where they had the opportunity to interact with visitors and help them engage with the artwork. From there, they transitioned to MOCA Cleveland, where they continued to develop their skills in customer service and visitor engagement. In their role as Intake Coordinator at Preterm, Sloane was responsible for leading patient admissions, managing financial records, and providing emotional counseling to patients.

In their current role as Education Coordinator at the Akron Art Museum, Sloane is responsible for developing and implementing educational programs for all ages. Sloane also manages the volunteer program and provides support to the Curatorial Department. Sloane is dedicated to making the Akron Art Museum a welcoming and inclusive space for everyone.

Sloane King Owen received their high school diploma from Crestview High School. Sloane then went on to Cleveland State University, where they received their Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. Finally, they received their Master of Arts in Museology/Museum Studies from the University of Oklahoma.
