Shelly Kittleson

Shelly Kittleson is an experienced journalist with a focus on reporting from Iraq, Syria, and Afghanistan. Currently serving as a journalist for Al Majalla since January 2023 and contributing to Al-Monitor since September 2014, Kittleson has also worked with ANSA since August 2012 as a contributor to the international division of the Italian newswire service. As a freelance reporter since 2010, Kittleson has covered stories for various US, international, and Italian media outlets. Earlier career highlights include producing two five-part radio documentaries for RAI Radiotre from 2012 to 2014, curating a special Italian radio program in 2013, and creating a documentary on the Afghan judicial system. Kittleson holds a diploma in Russian from the Istituto di Lingua e Cultura Russa and a Hostile Environments Training Course (HEFAT) certificate from Global Journalist Security.
