Kelli Whelan has a diverse work experience in various roles and industries. Kelli started their career in 2008 as a Chemical Analyst at Holcim. In 2013, they worked as a Product Impact Analyst at Baisikeli Ugunduzi, where they quantified the social and economic impact of using higher quality bicycle parts in Kenya.
From 2016 to 2017, Kelli served as a Vista Volunteer at AmeriCorps VISTA, where they coordinated grants for the Alaska Farm to School Program and provided technical assistance for sub-sites throughout Alaska. Kelli was also the state lead for Alaska at the National Farm to School Network.
In 2017, Kelli joined the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC) as an Americorps Vista. In this role, they focused on determining the "hidden" costs of water and sewer service in rural Alaska and provided guidance to homeowners and engineers on reducing costs and improving efficiency. Kelli later became an Energy Auditor, assessing energy efficiency potentials in sanitation facilities and community buildings.
At ANTHC, Kelli also worked as a Utility Support Engineer I, managing a USDA Rural Development technical assistance grant and improving communities' access to sanitation improvement funding. Kelli then advanced to the position of Utility Support Engineer II, providing technical assistance, design reviews, and project management for water and sewer infrastructure projects.
Prior to these roles, Kelli gained experience at Michigan Technological University as a Student Supervisor and Operations Assistant.

Kelli Whelan has an extensive educational background. Kelli obtained a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Environmental/Environmental Health Engineering from Michigan Technological University. Kelli completed this program from 2010 to 2015. Prior to that, they earned a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Chemistry from the same university. Kelli studied Chemistry from 2005 to 2010.
In addition to their academic degrees, Kelli Whelan has also obtained several certifications. Kelli became an Engineer In Training through the NCEES in November 2020. Kelli acquired the Hazardous Paint Handler certification from the State of Alaska in January 2020. Furthermore, they became a Sanitary Survey Inspector through the State of Alaska in December 2019.
