Senior Regulatory Specialist - Design Risk-based Regulation at Alberta Energy Regulator

Hua Deng, M.Sc., P. Eng., is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in risk-based regulation and risk management, currently serving as a Senior Regulatory Specialist at the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) since April 2009. With a strong background in designing regulations to address energy resource development issues, Hua has significantly contributed to the implementation of Alberta's liability management framework and the development of AER's enterprise risk management program based on ISO31000 standards. Hua's expertise encompasses a wide range of risk assessment techniques and has also provided valuable insights into hazard and risk modeling, ensuring the province's oil and gas sector remains compliant and effective. Hua holds a Graduate Certificate in Decision and Risk Analysis from Stanford University, a Master’s degree in Process Control from the University of Alberta, and a Bachelor of Engineering in Materials Processing and Control from Huazhong University of Science and Technology.
