Reut Shavit

Laboratory and Pilot Plant Manager at Algiecel

Reut Shavit has extensive work experience in the field of molecular biology. In 2012, they began working as a Molecular Biology Technetium at TransAlgae. From 2016 to 2021, they held two positions at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev: Postdoctoral Researcher in the Biotechnology Department's Molecular Plant-Insect Interactions Lab, and Project Consultant in Molecular Biology in the Ecology Department's Insect Behavioral & Evolutionary Ecology Lab. During this time, they identified biosynthetic genes in the benzoxazinoid pathway and characterized their function in response to herbivore attack in wheat, and worked on nitrogen fixing bacteria in weevils. In 2017, they were a Lecturer and Course Developer at the Ramat Negev International Training Center. From 2021 to 2022, they were an Analytical Chemist Scientist of Flavor and Taste at THE MEDITERRANEAN FOOD LAB, performing GC/MS analysis of aroma compounds in meat and meat-like food products in order to identify odor fingerprints of company products, including statistical analysis and data visualization. Reut is currently a Laboratory and Pilot Plant Manager at Algiecel.

Reut Shavit obtained a Bachelor's degree in Agroecology and Sustainable Agriculture from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 2010. Reut then went on to obtain a Master's degree in Agroecology and Sustainable Agriculture from the same university in 2012. Finally, they completed their Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Agronomy and Crop Science from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 2016.
