Rob Tompkins

Rob Tompkins is a seasoned software engineer currently serving as a Senior Software Engineer at Kinsale Insurance since March 2024. With significant involvement in The Apache Software Foundation since 2016 as a member of the Project Management Committee for Apache Commons, Rob has contributed to accelerating release pipelines and implementing security patches, including a critical fix for the CVE that led to the Experian data breach. Additional roles include Senior Systems Engineer contractor at NASA through Navteca, Lead Software Engineer at Capital One, and Principal Engineer at Naborforce, where Rob effectively managed multi-cloud environments and saved costs through optimization strategies. An experienced mentor, Rob has also participated in the Google Summer of Code and served as an ambassador for the All Things Open Conference. Educational achievements include a Master’s degree in Mathematics and Logic from the University of South Carolina and dual Bachelor's degrees in Mathematics and Engineering Science and Mechanics from Virginia Tech.
