Calvin Brown

Calvin Brown is a staff accountant at ALTA PLANNING & DESIGN, INC. Calvin has also worked as an assistant district manager at the City of New York and as a civic data analyst and planner at Alta Planning + Design. As an assistant district manager, Calvin was responsible for liaising with elected officials, city agencies, local nonprofits, and community groups to address issues affecting Community District 3 in Manhattan. Calvin also crafted resolutions and formal responses to city land use and transportation proposals, organized and led community board and interagency meetings, and developed scripted tools in Python to automate tasks and aid in land use and transportation related analysis. As a civic data analyst and planner at Alta Planning + Design, Calvin led data analysis and created written content and visual graphics for active transportation projects nationwide. Calvin also developed Python tools that automated data collection and analyses, workflows, and graphics production. These tools were used on multiple projects nationwide, and expanded Alta’s capacity to deliver stronger, more consistent products within budget. Calvin has a wide array of experience with demographics and transportation data, including data from the U.S. Census, LEHD, OpenStreetMap, GTFS, Streetlight, Replica, and Ecopia. Calvin is skilled in using GIS, Python, Jupyter Notebook, PostGIS, Excel, and other tools to analyze data and communicate findings in the form of maps, tables, graphics, and written reports. Calvin Brown has a Master’s Degree in City/Urban, Community and Regional Planning from Hunter College and a Bachelor’s degree in English Language and Literature, General from the University of Illinois Chicago.

Calvin Brown reports to George Hudson, CEO. They work with Brett Hondorp - President, Anna Gore - Planning Associate, and Cathy Cibor - Principal.
