Pouyan Afshar

Director and Co Founder at Amaka at Amaka

Pouyan Afshar has had a varied and impressive career, beginning with their role as Tipstaff to the Hon. Justice Nicholas QC in 2005 at the Supreme Court of New South Wales. In 2007, they began working at Allens as a Lawyer, providing legal and commercial solutions to a variety of clients. Pouyan also took on the role of Lecturer and Course Convenor at UNSW, and Coach of the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Team, which became the first Australian team to win the world finals of this competition in 2008. In 2009, they were elected President of NSW Young Lawyers, and in 2010 they took on roles at The Law Society of NSW as a Board Member and Chairperson of the Arbitration Liaison Committee, as well as at Baker & McKenzie as a Senior Associate and at Tristan Jepson Memorial Foundation as a Director. In 2015, they co-founded Amaka and in 2016 they became Managing Director of BarBooks Australia.

Pouyan Afshar attended Macquarie University from 2000 to 2005, where they earned a BA/LLB (Hons) Dipl Lang (German) with a focus in International Law, international relations, history, and German. From 2003 to 2004, they also attended Universität des Saarlandes and earned a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations, with a focus in International Relations.
