Job Summary:

 The Supplier Development Engineer (SDE) in the Supply Chain Team shall be responsible for the Supplier (Vendors and CM) Quality on, Mechanical Machined Bill of Materials and  Balance of Systems for Amber Kinetics. The SDE works to lead and assist in the technical pre-qualification, assessment, and provision of recommendations on supplier development initiatives. He/she shall work with the supplier development lead engineer.

The responsibility shall also include working closely with the manufacturing and engineering team with the objective of continuously improving performance (increase lifecycle, reduce scrap, and improve repair processes) by implementing process controls and developing quality assurance plans according to Amber Kinetics Supplier Quality Management procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Apply technical expertise to provide assessments and assist in supplier development, as well as take the lead in initiating cost reduction projects together with the sourcing team.
  • Using the Statistical Process Control (SPC), Advanced Planning for Quality in Production (APQP) tools and the Metrics, proactively identify and help implement improvement to the Supplier Quality Procedure.
  • Promote the use of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and continuous improvement techniques at Suppliers to help them reduce variability and achieve process control
  • Train Suppliers to effectively execute Supplier Quality Action Notices (SQAN) and implement preventive action.
  • Initiate and follow-up Supplier Corrective Actions (SQAN) to ensure complete and effective root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
  • Perform periodic audits of Supplier Quality Systems for the purpose of assuring continued Supplier conformance to approved quality procedures.

Administrative / Management Responsibilities:

  • Develop positive relationships and effective lines of communication with suppliers: Partnership-oriented arrangements

  • Create and Deploy tools to execute seamlessly all process modules (Audit, Non-conformance tracking, preventive action and Change Control) and ensure completion/follow-up on action items.

  • Manage the BOM/BOS Supplier Quality Scorecard metrics such as Non Conformance Tracking (MRB), Supplier Quality Action Notice (SQAN) incidence and response rates, Containment Plan and follow up,

  • Roll up these KPIs into a collective supplier scorecard, which is a portion of a bigger Supplier Scorecard that includes Delivery, Cost, Continuous Improvement and Savings Delivered.

  • Track and Report the Cost of Poor Quality in the Amber Kinetics Supply Chain and Manufacturing  Environments

  • Lead working meeting to review the status of the “Active Supplier Quality” issues

Job Qualifications

A. Educational Background (including Masters, if any)

      BS Mechanical Engineering or BS Metallurgical Engineering

B. Work Experience by year /Training/Certification

     With at least 2 to 3 years of experience in Machining, Metallurgy and other Mechanical Manufacturing

C.  Competencies/other Qualifications Required

  • Advanced oral and written communication skills, including the ability to write technical reports and presentations
  • Advanced knowledge of quality related tools including, but not limited to, SPC, APQP, 8D, 5S, Lean Six Sigma (certification is preferred),.
  • Ability to function and manage time and priorities autonomously while reporting in to Supplier Development Lead Engineer for feedback and direction.
