John Ranola has a diverse work experience in the field of statistical genetics and bioinformatics. John currently holds the position of Principal Statistical Geneticist at Ambry Genetics since May 2021. Prior to that, they worked as a Bioinformatics Scientist at Providence Health & Services from April 2019 to May 2021.
John's earlier roles include being a Statistical Geneticist at the University of Washington Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology from January 2016 to April 2019, where they focused on classified variants of uncertain significance and developed new methods for analysis. John also worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Washington from December 2013 to December 2015, conducting research in statistical genetics and developing an ancestral localization method.
Starting their career as a Research Assistant at UCLA from May 2008 to November 2013, John studied graph theory and network theory as applied to genetics, and they also developed methods for the analysis of ancestral localizations using single nucleotide polymorphisms. Before this, they worked as a Math Tutor at Renaissance Kids from September 2006 to June 2013, providing tutoring and test preparation for various math subjects.
John Ranola earned their Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Biology from the University of Portland in 2006. John then pursued their Master of Science degree in Biomathematics at UCLA from 2006 to 2008. Continuing their education at UCLA, they obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Biomathematics from 2008 to 2013.
