Dean Phelus

Dean Phelus has extensive work experience in the museum industry. Dean started their career with the American Association of Museums in 1993, where they served as the Assistant Director for Meetings. In this role, they were responsible for organizing the association's annual meeting and overseeing logistics. Dean held this position until 1997.

In 1998, Phelus joined the American Alliance of Museums and held multiple roles over the years. Dean initially served as the Director of Meetings and Professional Education, where they provided leadership and supervision for the association's annual meeting and other professional development programs. Dean held this position until 2012.

From 2012 to 2015, Phelus served as the Senior Director of International Programs and Events. During this time, they spearheaded the development and implementation of an international strategy to foster collaboration between US and international museum professionals. Most recently, Phelus has taken on the role of Editor In Chief for the Museum magazine, starting in November 2018. In this capacity, they oversee the publication and ensures its content reflects current museum practices and trends.
