Kaleem Zaidi's work experience begins in 2003 at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, where they served as a Postdoctoral Researcher and later as a Research Instructor and Research Assistant Professor. During this time, they made a significant discovery in identifying a network of microRNAs that targets the oncogenic AML1-ETO protein in acute myeloid leukemia. They also played a key role in education and training for human embryonic stem cell research and determined pathways regulating the unique properties of human embryonic stem cells.
In 2010, Zaidi joined Wiley as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Cellular Biochemistry, a position they held until 2019. In this role, they likely reviewed and edited research manuscripts submitted to the journal.
Starting in 2012, Zaidi held various roles at the University of Vermont. Initially, they were a Research Assistant Professor and later became a Research Associate Professor from 2016 to 2020. They strategized, designed, and implemented cancer research projects focused on therapeutic target discovery and validation. They collaborated with basic research scientists and clinical researchers to identify epigenetic profiles in leukemia patients and breast cancer. Additionally, they mentored and advised doctoral and post-doctoral researchers during their tenure.
At the University of Vermont, Zaidi also served as the Associate Director for Regional Collaborations at the University of Vermont Cancer Center from 2016 to 2020. Their responsibilities included assembling collaborative teams of researchers from different institutions for cancer-focused proposal development, serving as the Director of Basic Research for the Northern New England Cancer & Translational Research Award, and preparing annual reports for the Cancer Center Director's overview.
From 2016 to 2018, Zaidi worked at Elsevier as an Associate Editor for the journal Gene. In this role, they assigned manuscripts to subject matter experts for peer review and made editorial recommendations based on the reviews.
Most recently, Zaidi joined the American Association for Cancer Research in 2020. They started as a Senior Scientific Writer and later became an Assistant Director and currently hold the role of Associate Director for Scientific Research Analysis and Dissemination.
Kaleem Zaidi began their education at the University of the Punjab from 1995 to 1997, where they obtained their M.Sc. degree in Environmental Biology. Kaleem later pursued further studies at UMass Chan Medical School from 1998 to 2003, earning a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Cell/Cellular and Molecular Biology.
